Bluejay men's track signs two from Texas PDF Print E-mail
Written by Free Press
Wednesday, 15 August 2007
Two Waco, Texas, high school classmates have signed letters of intent to participate in the Tabor College track and field program this coming year.

Warren McKamey Jr., who also plans to compete in cross country, is 6 foot 3 inches, 158-pounds. He ran the 200 meters, 400 meters, long jump and triple jump at Connally High School in Waco.

McKamey was a regional qualifier every year of his high school career, and was captain of his team as a senior.

“I believe Warren will add a lot to our men’s team both on the track and on campus,” said Dave Kroeker, Tabor track and field coach. “We’re looking for him to make a real impact in middle distance races and on our relay teams,” Kroeker added.

Meanwhile, Jacob Story, 6-1, 176, ran the 200 and 400 at Connally High. He also ran on his team’s sprint medley and mile relays. In addition, Story was a standout linebacker in football.

“I’m excited to have Jacob on our track team and look for him to make an immediate contribution on our relay teams and the 200-meters,” Kroeker said.

The Tabor College volleyball program has added 10 players for the 2007 season, according to Amy Ratzlaff, head coach.

“Tabor volleyball will certainly have a different face this year after graduating six key players,” Ratzlaff said.

“However, with 10 high- quality new players and talented returners, our goal is to play volleyball in such a way that we still look like Tabor volleyball. We are as excited as ever to get everyone together on one court.”

With the start of training camp less than a month away, Tabor College head football coach Mike Gottsch is pleased with the off-season recruiting he and his staff have accomplished so far.

“If the head coach is looking at the problem the right way, you have to try to sign every spot again, and every year you’ll have the same needs,” he said.

With 33 recruits, Gottsch is confident that the team’s depth has increased in nearly every area.

“I feel, coming from the head coach’s standpoint, you have to bring in new players at every position during the off-season,” he said.
