For Hillsboro High golf coach Scott O’Hare, the more things change the more they stay the same.
Last season, O’Hare had the core of a strong four-man team with three pretty consistent low scorers, but also a big question mark for a fourth score low enough to vault the Trojans into medal contention.
Seniors and returning letter-winners on the 2007 Marion High School softball team are (juniors, front row, left to right): Kristin Waner, Tacy Taylor, Valeree Hett, Lanna Carroll, Lauren Helmer, Austin Percell; (seniors, back row) Stefanie Schell, Jandee Sharp, Morgan Cady, Kari Tajchman, Sonja Steinborn and Erika Geis. First-year Marion High School softball coach Sandy Black will have an intriguing group of freshmen to complement a deep group of upperclassmen coming off a 7-13 season in 2006. “I would rather focus on this year and the good group of athletic girls I have out,” Black said. “Each and every girl will be an important part of the team and play an important role in helping us to be successful. I do not want to single out any of my girls, we are a team and we are all very talented.” The squad will open its season at home against Smoky Valley on Tuesday, April 3.

Marion Warriors baseball coach Shawn Craft has a modest goal to start the 2007 season: to improve a little every day.
“Improving every week, every game. That’s been our focus through spring training,” Craft said. “We’re focused on getting better every day.”

Having lost five-sixths of last year’s varsity lineup to graduation, Hillsboro High boys’ tennis coach Kory Unruh sees this season’s challenge quite clearly.
“Starting my sixth year, this is the first time I can definitely say we’re starting a full rebuilding year,” Unruh said.
Four Hillsboro Trojans and three Marion Warriors have received all-league recognition from the basketball coaches of the Mid-Central Activities Association.
