The Marion High School softball put 10 runs on the board over the course of their makeup doubleheader at Sterling on Friday, but it wasn’t enough to secure a win.

During a spring season in which weather has played havoc on so many other events, Mother Nature smiled on the weather-plagued James Thomas Invitational on Friday.
For the first time in four years, Hillsboro High’s premiere home track meet played out on schedule and without a weather-related hitch.
For the Trojans, the wait was worth it, as both the girls’ and boys’ teams claimed their respective division titles.
With eight first-place performances, the Trojan girls rolled up 129 points to outdistance Hesston (110), Remington (100) and Berean Academy (98) and the rest of the 10-team field.
JuliAnne Chisholm and Hannah Marsh led the assault with three individual gold medals apiece.

Hillsboro High claimed a pair of dramatic one-run wins over Lyons Friday at Memorial Field.
The Trojans (6-6) scored a run in the bottom of the seventh to walk off with a 5-4 victory in Game 1, then scored the winning run in the bottom of the eighth to take a 7-6 decision in Game 2.
