Velva Jane Brunner, 74, of Belton, Mo., died Jan. 10 in Kansas City, Mo.

Services were Jan. 14 at South Haven Baptist Church of Belton. She will be buried in Hope at a later date.

She was born Feb. 19, 1933, to Norman and Hilda (Pigorish) Graham in Hope. She was married to Edward Brunner, who predeceased her in 2000.

She is survived by four sons, Robert Brunner of Harrisonville, Mo., and Gary, David and Daniel Brunner, all of Belton; three daughters, Cindy Ball of Lee’s Summit, Mo., Lindy Brunner and Becky McCarrty, both of Belton; two sisters, Isabella Bezdek of Hillsboro, and Viola Stevens of Belton; two brothers, Albert Graham of Kanopolis, and Gale Graham of Strong City; 19 grandchildren and 33 great-grandchildren.

Thomas L. Laughlin, 73, of Canton, former employee of Excel Industries and Hustler Turf Equipment of Hesston and U.S. Navy veteran, died Jan. 20 at Medical City Dallas (Texas) Hospital.

The funeral will be at 3:30 p.m. Friday, Jan. 25 at Canton United Methodist Church with pastor Richard Brooks officiating. Burial will take place at Canton Township Cemetery with military honors.

Visitation will be from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 24 at Olson’s Mortuary in Canton.

He was born Nov. 23, 1934, to Emmet and Viola (Kennison) Laughlin in Salina. On Dec. 18, 1960, he was married to Maida Tinsley, who survives in Canton.

He is also survived by a son, Chuck Laughlin of Dallas; a daughter, Penny and Tod Chapman of Dallas; a sister, Luella Base of Salina; and two grandchildren.

Memorial funds have been established with Canton United Methodist Church, the American Diabetes Association and the Terry C. Johnson Center for Basic Cancer Research.

Anna Orvell Brunner, 87, of Ramona, teacher and homemaker, died Jan. 20 at St. Francis Hospital in Wichita.

The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 24 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Ramona. She will be buried at Lewis Cemetery in Ramona.

Visitation will be from 7 p.m. to 8 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 23 at Carlson-Becker Funeral Home in Hope.

She was born Jan. 1, 1921, to Merlin Calvin and Lena Mae (Rock) Long in Hope. On June 3, 1945, she was married to Lauren Brunner, who survives.

She is also survived by a daughter, Ann and Bernie Koch of Wichita; three sons, Kent and Jean Brunner of Lost Springs, Tracy and Yvonne Brunner of Ramona, and Mark Brunner of Ramona; a sister, Arvis Shields of Raytown, Mo.; a brother, John and Betty Dyck of Minneapolis; sisters-in-law, Doris Long of Abilene, and Virginia Shields of Lincolnville; eight grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

A memorial fund has been established with Trinity Lutheran Church in care of Carlson-Becker Funeral Home.

Betty S. Epp, 87, of Goessel, pastor’s wife and homemaker, died Jan. 18 at Newton Medical Center.

The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 22 at Alexanderwohl Mennonite Church. Burial will take place at 10 a.m. at Alexanderwohl Cemetery.

Visitation will be held from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. Monday, Jan. 21 with family present from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Miller Funeral Home in Goessel.

She was born June 1, 1920, to Alvin and Mary (Isaak) Schmidt in Dubois, Idaho. On June 1, 1944, she was married to Aaron J Epp, who predeceased her in 1992.

She is survived by two daughters, Patricia and Myron Schmidt and Mary and Jim Schmidt, all of rural Goessel; a brother, Alfred Schmidt of Buhler; a sister, Rosa Mae Haugsness of Buhler; four grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

Memorial funds have been established with Mennonite Mission Network of Mennonite Church USA or Bethel College in care of Miller Funeral Home.

John F. Reznicek, 64, of Marion, an employee for Irv Schroeder County Motors in Hillsboro, died Jan. 16 at St. Luke Emergency Room in Marion.

The funeral was Jan. 19 at Holy Family Parish, St. John Nepomucene Church in Pilsen. He was buried at Marion Cemetery.

He was born June 28, 1943, to John C. and Irma (Holub) Reznicek in Lost Springs. On June 1, 1968, he was married to Helen L. Olsen, who survives in Marion.

He is also survived by his mother of Marion; five brothers, Tom and Janet of Lawrence, Ron and Verena of Farmington, British Columbia, Canada, Ed and Mary Fund of Goff, Ken and Deb of Burlington, and Bob of Lost Springs; three sisters, Carol and Bob Makovec of Ramona, Mary and Charlie Loewen of Hillsboro, and Lori and John Torline of Derby.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Fr. Kapaun Guild or to Quail Forever in care of Zeiner Funeral Home, P.O. Box 6, Marion, KS 66861.
