DEATH: Wilbur "Gene" Redger, 86

Wilbur “Gene” Redger, 86, of Newton, a retired farmer in Tampa and custom wheat farmer in Newton, died Feb. 2 at the Kansas Heart Hospital in Wichita.The service will be at 2:30 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 5, at the Church of the Nazarene, 1000 N. Main St., Newton.
Visitation continues until 8 p.m. Feb. 4 at Broadway Colonial Funeral Home, Newton.
Burial will be at Peace Valley Cemetery in Durham.
Memorials may be made to the American Heart Association and sent in care of Broadway Colonial...
Tabor teams sweep close games at Ottawa

The Bluejays swept their games on the road at Ottawa Saturday night, with each team winning by two. The women defeated the Braves 57-55 and improved to 13-1 in the KCAC, 17-7 overall, while the men recorded a 77-75 overtime win and improved to 10-4, 11-12.WOMEN – The Bluejays persevered for the two-point win Saturday, despite losing Janelle Rust to injury just over 8 minutes into the game. The contest opened with a basket by Rust at the 18:15 mark, but the Braves answered one minute later to tie the game, 2-2. Nikki Lewis and Hannah Paust contributed Tabor’s next five points, and the Bluejays later surged 6-0 for a 13-6 lead at 12:05 when Lewis scored off a steal.

It was a battle of the Warriors Friday night, with Marion traveling on the road to face the Warriors of Berean Academy. The Marion girls fell 42-26, while the boys defeated the home team 36-20.GIRLS – Facing a tough Berean defense, Marion struggled to put points on the board in the opening quarter of Friday’s game. Thanks to good defensive pressure, the home team surged to a 7-0 lead off a steal at the 2:33 mark. Marion’s first points came with under one minute remaining in the opening quarter when Katey Ehrlich cashed in on a traditional three-point play for a 7-3 Berean advantage at the end of one.

DEATH: Lillian Peters, 89

Lillian Peters, 89, a licensed practical nurse, died Jan. 29 at Parkside Homes in Hillsboro.
The service will be at 10 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 2, at Trinity Mennonite Church, 211 Elm St., Hillsboro, with pastor Jeff Wintermote officiating.
Burial will be at Haven of Rest Cemetery, 190th Road, Hillsboro.
Visitation with family will be from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Friday, Feb. 1, at Jost Funeral Home, 401 S. Washington St., Hillsboro.
