TC women drop to Southwestern in semifinal game

The No. 2 Tabor women hosted No. 3 Southwestern Saturday night, and the home team struggled getting shots to fall and came up on the short side of a 57-46 score.

TC splits quarterfinal games; men drop to Ottawa, women win

Tabor hosted two quarterfinal matchups against Ottawa Friday night. The No. 2 seeded Tabor men opened play and dropped a 69-53 contest to No. 7 Ottawa. The No. 2 Tabor women followed with a 44-35 victory over No. 7 Ottawa.

MEN – The Tabor men couldn’t get things going Friday night and while the Bluejays were within five at the half, the game ended with Tabor on the short side of a 69-53 score.

The lead changed hands in the opening minutes, but Tabor’s last lead, 6-4, came with 16:31 left in the first half when Chance LeBlanc drained a three-point basket. A Cameron Rust three-pointer later tied the game at nine, but the Braves surged 7-0 before Marc Hopkinson contributed a basket behind the arc at 11:42 to draw within 12-16. The...

DEATH: Frank Yakesch Jr., 90

Frank Yakesch Jr., 90, a retired U.S. Army command sergeant major and later manager of a parts store, died Feb. 18 at Parkside Homes, Hillsboro.

The funeral will be at 1 p.m. Friday, Feb. 22, at Bray, Okla.

A graveside service will be at 11 a.m., Saturday, Feb. 23, at Wilson City Cemetery, Wilson.

Memorials may be made to Bray Missionary Baptist Church or the Marlow Missionary Baptist Church and sent in care of Zeiner Funeral Home, 205 Elm Street, Marion, KS 66861, in charge of arrangements.

 

 

 

 

Time/date changed for Silva funeral

Aubrey Louise Meisel Silva, 31, formerly of Goessel and employed at Target in Wichita, died Feb. 18.

The family changed the service date and time to 2:30 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 23, (not 10:30 a.m. Friday, Feb. 22, as originally published) at Grace Community Church, 1600 S Anderson Road, Newton, with pastors Dave Reimer and Steve Friesen officiating.

Memorials may be made to the Dayani Grace Silva Education Scholarship Fund, Citizens State Bank, 1701 S. Kansas Ave., Newton, KS 67114.

Baker Funeral Home, 6100 E. Central, Suite 203, Wichita, is in charge of arrangements.
