Red Cross opens a shelter in Lincolnville

The Red Cross has opened a shelter at the Lincolnville Community Center, 213 W. 6th, Lincolnville, for anyone needing a place to stay.
It has heat, water, electricity and cots. No bedding or food is available at this time.

USD 410 board OKs interlocal agreement with Tabor

Unified School District 410 Board of Education approved a resolution Monday authorizing the district to enter into an interlocal agreement with Tabor College regarding acquiring and constructing the athletic facility.Superintendent Doug Huxman said the next steps include approval by the executive commitee of the college’s board of directors and submission to the Kansas attorney general.
Huxman added that although he didn’t think the turn around would be long, he didn’t know the time table for resolving the lawsuit.
Regarding the facility improvement projects, the board held a special meeting Friday, Dec. 7, and approved a contract with Coonrod & Associates Construction Co. Inc.

WEATHER THREAT PROMPTS CONCERT POSTPONEMENT

The threat of a severe winter ice storm moving into the area for Monday night (Dec. 3) has prompted the postponement of the Tabor College Community Chorale and Handbell Choir concert. The Hillsboro High School basketball teams played some pretty hot basketball on a day when it was cold and slippery outside. The Trojan girls and boys won their respective games by comfortable margins in the final round of the Cardinal Classic at Cheney on Saturday (Dec. 7) .The Trojan girls raced to an 18-3 lead after one quarter and went on to derail the Chaparral Roadrunners by a score of 46-28 in the battle for fifth place in the six-team tournament.
Chaparral cut the margin to 23-11 at intermission, but the Trojans threw a shutout in the third quarter to extend the lead to 37-11 with Dakota Kaufman contributing six points, Amanda Faber four and Kassidi Luthi and Amy Neufeld a bucket each.

Cheney sweeps Hillsboro on Tuesday night

Hillsboro dropped both games against Cheney in the second round of Cardinal Classic pool play Tuesday at Brown Gymnasium.The Trojan girls led Cheney 15-14 at halftime, but the tempo of the game picked up in the third quarter as the Cardinals built a 28-19 lead in the first 5:00 of the period.
To their credit, the Trojans battled back, drawing as close as one point (29-28) when Samantha Heinrichs drained a 3-pointer to start the fourth quarter. The Cardinals extended the lead back to eight points at 43-35 with 2:25 left to play and went on to nail down the win.
In the boys’ game, a talented Cheney team built a 27-19 lead by halftime, but then kicked its game up a notch in the third quarter with an 8-2 run and never looked back on the...
