FUNDRAISER at Wendy's for SNC

Hillsboro High School’s Spirit-N-Celebration will be the recipient of Wendy’s restaurant fundraising on Monday, May 18.

Twelve percent of sales from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. will be donated to the group. The money raised will go toward the group’s trip to Kansas City next fall.

SNC will sing at the Kansas City Renaissance Fair and at St. Monica’s Catholic Church with their gospel choir.

 

 

 

 

 

SOFTBALL REGIONALS - Pairings announced for next week's tournament

The pairings have been released for the Class 3A regional softball tournament in Marion next week, May 18 and 20.

The home team Warriors, seeded No. 7 with a 2-18 record, will square off against No. 2 seeded Hillsboro (10-10) at 3 p.m. Monday on Field C at the Marion complex.

The winner of that game will play the winner of No. 3 Sterling (10-10) and No. 6 Hutchinson Trinity (5-13) in the semifinals game at 6:30 p.m. Monday on Field C.

The winner of the semifinal game will advance to the championship game at 4:45 p.m. Wednesday, May 20, on Field B.

On the other side of the bracket, No. 1 Council Grove (13-8) has a bye in the first round and will play the winner of Monday’s first-round game between No. 4 Southeast of Saline (9-9) and...

Tabor athletics banquet set for Saturday

Former Bluejay greats John Franz and Colleen (Ratzlaff) Squires will beinducted into the Tabor College Hall of Fame class at the annualTabor College Hall of Fame Banquet, to be held Saturday, May 16that the Hillsboro Mennonite Brethren Church. A reception for theHall of Fame inductees and their guests starts at 5 p.m., followed bya dinner and silent auction at 6 p.m.

Franz, a 1961 graduateof Tabor participated in soccer, basketball, baseball, tennis, andtrack and field while at Tabor College. A four-year letter winner in soccer, basketball, and track and field, Franz was named Most Valuable Player his senioryear in soccer. The 1961 Bluejays soccer team finished the season with eight wins andone tie, and placed third at the NAIA...

REGIONAL BASEBALL - Tournament pairings released

The pairings have been released for the Class 3A regional baseball tournament at Memorial Field in Hillsboro next week, May 18-19.

The home team Trojans, seeded No. 1 with a 15-5 record, have a first-round bye and will play their first game in the semifinals at 2 p.m. Tuesday. They will meet the winner of Monday’s game between No. 4 Southeast of Saline (6-11) and No. 5 Bennington (7-13).

On the other side of the bracket, No. 6 Marion (3-17) will play No. 3 Ellsworth (9-11) at 4:30 p.m. Monday. The tournament will open Monday with a game between No. 2 Beloit (11-9) and No. 7 Herington (2-17). The winners of those two games will play their semifinal contest at 4:30 p.m. Tuesday.

DEATH Ava Ballew, 96

Ava C. Ballew, 96, a retired beautician, died Monday, May 11, at Via Christi-St. Francis in Wichita.

Services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, May 15, at Zeiner Funeral Home with pastor Larry King officiating. Burial will be at 2:30 p.m. at Old Mission Cemetery in Wichita. Visitation is from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.

She was born Jan. 20, 1913, to William H. and Lucy C. (Hamilton) Halling in Hanston. On Dec. 27, 1943, she was married to James Edward Ballew, who predeceased her.

Survivors include daughter Deana and Larry Olsen of Marion; two grandchildren; five great-grandchildren and sister Bonnie and Jack Brown of Council Bluffs, Iowa.
