Dorothy Hanneman, 93, died May 23 at Parkside Homes in Hillsboro.

The funeral will be at 2 p.m. Sunday, May 26, at Hillsboro United Methodist Church, 905 East D St.

Marion baseball falls to Silver Lake in state quarterfinals

The No. 6 seeded Marion baseball team fell two runs short to Silver Lake Thursday in the quarterfinal round of the Class 3A state baseball tournament in Manhattan, enduring a 4-2 loss to the No. 3 seeded Eagles.

The game began with three scoreless innings. Silver Lake struck first in the bottom of the fourth inning when Evan Burdiek doubled to left field, batting in two runs, aided by a Marion error.

But Marion countered with a game-tying two runs in the top of the fifth inning. Batting first, Austin Pedersen singled to center, and Zach Robson’s sacrifice bunt allowed Pedersen to advance to second. Taylor Heidebrecht singled to center, and Dylan Seacat followed with a single that brought Pedersen home. Heidebrecht later reached home...

Kenneth Wiebe, 77, of Hillsboro, formerly of Durham, died May 17 at Harry Hynes Memorial Hospice in Wichita.

The funeral is at 10:30 a.m. Monday, May 20, at Morning Star Mennonite Church, 3403 Falcon Road, Tampa.

Visitation with family is from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Sunday, also at Morning Star Mennonite Church.

State begins road project along U.S. 77

Starting today (Wednesday, May 15) a section of U.S. Highway 77 in Marion and Butler counties will be under construction. Beginning at the K-256 junction (three miles east of Marion) then south to the El Dorado north city limit in Butler County, U.S. 77 will receive a 0.75-inch mill and 1.5-inch overlay.

Traffic control will be handled by flaggers and pilot car. The construction zone will be in effect during daylight hours. Delays of up to 15 minutes may occur.

Plans call for the project to be completed on or about July 8th weather permitting. APAC Kansas Inc., Shears Division, is the prime contractor. Project cost is $4,554,371.

Irvin D. Schroeder, 90, former owner of a Hillsboro car dealership, died May 14 at Parkside Homes in Hillsboro.

The service will be at 2 p.m. Sunday, May 19, at First Mennonite Church, 102 S. Ash St., Hillsboro.

Burial will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Buhler Cemetery.

Visitation is from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. with family present Friday at Jost Funeral Home, 401 S. Washington St., Hillsboro.

Memorials may be made to the Trojan Booster Club and sent in care of Jost Funeral Home P.O. Box 266, Hillsboro, KS 67063.
