The Hillsboro High School girls will make their fifth straight appearance at the Class 3A state tournament as the No. 4 seed. The Trojans (21-2) will open play at 8:15 p.m. Wednesday against No. 5 seeded Holcomb (19-4) in the Hutchinson Sports Arena.
If the Trojans win they would play the winner of No. 1 Burlington (23-0) and No. 8 Sabetha (17-6) at 6:30 p.m. Friday.
On the other side of the bracket, No. 2 Garden Plain (22-1) will take on No. 7 Riley County (17-5) at 3 p.m. Wednesday and No. 3 Caney Valley (20-1) and No. 6 Russell (18-5) will meet at 4:45 p.m. Wednesday.
With Wamego (22-1) holding the No. 1 seed in the Class 4A tournament, four teams from the Trojan Classic in January have qualified for the state tournament this year. Wamego’s only loss came at the hands of Hillsboro in the championship game, while Humboldt and Riley County played each other for fifth place, with Riley County prevailing.
