Based on the results of recent testing, the blue-green algae status at both Marion Reservoir and Marion County Lake has been reduced from a warning to an advisory for the Labor Day weekend.
Steve Hudson, Marion County Lake director, said, “We will be opening up the lake for swimming and skiing and activities like that, and only ask that people be aware of the possibility of blue-green agae in some areas of the lake.”
According to the Kansas Department of Health and Environment, an advisory means a hazardous condition exists, signs should be posted at all public access locations and water may be unsafe for humans/animals. Contact with the water is discouraged.
