The Hillsboro High School volleyball team earned a berth in the Class 3A state tournament in Salina next week by winning the sub-state tournament title at Remington on Saturday (Oct. 25).Hillsboro started the day with a two-game sweep of Sterling -- the Trojans’ third victory over the Black Bears in eight days.
In the semifinals, Hillsboro lost the first game to Sedgwick, 23-25, then came back to take the next two, 25-17, 25-18, to advance to the championship match against Hutchinson Trinity, who defeated top-seeded Remington in their semifinals match.
Hillsboro squeeked out a 25-23 win in Game 1, then cruised to the championship with a relatively easy 25-14 victory.
Hillsboro, seeded second at the sub-state, will take a 26-10 record to Salina on Friday for the pool-play round. Those matchups will be announced likely on Sunday.
