Relief Sale generates $473,892 for MCC work

Generosity permeated the Kansas State Fair?grounds in Hutchinson April 13-14, generating $473,982 for Mennonite Central Commit?tee and its programs at the 44th annual Kansas Mennonite Relief Sale.

The KMRS proceeds benefit Mennonite Central Committee, a world-relief organization. MCC provides relief, development and peace programs in more than 60 countries. The sale is organized and run by an all-volunteer staff.

The quilt auction generated $134,721. The top quilt garnered the largest donation ever for a quilt at the Relief Sale at $8,100, according to Ruth Vogt, quilt committee co-chair. The Queen Ann Star whole cloth, hand- quilted quilt was crafted by Four Ever Friends, Hesston.

The two quilt collectors from Fort Collins, Colo., purchased around $30,000 worth of quilts, including the top-selling quilt.

The general auction raised $67,877 Friday and Saturday.

The top selling items at the auction were the 1950 Chev Delux at $5,500, 1948 Packard at $6,100, 1945 Model B IH at $2,100, 1953 Model B John Deere $4,000, 40 Model C Allis-Chalmers at $3,200 and the Hustler Sport donated by Excel Industries brought over $4,000.

Other notable totals include the following: silent auction $5,783; surplus auction $6,776; Run for Relief $21,617; and Penny Power $22,403.
