Alternative Gifts International, based in Wichita, has awarded a grant of $2,100 to Families And Communities Together Inc. in Hillsboro.
FACT received a similar grant from AGI last year, according to Ashlee Gann, FACT director.
“This grant is designated for Circles Marion County which falls under the FACT Inc. umbrella,” Gann said. “The grant funds will be used for the weekly meals provided at Circles meetings, transportation costs for the Circle leaders, and any supplies needed.”
AGI is a 501 (3) (c) non-profit that raises humanitarian aid for projects around the world.
Each fall, hundreds of community organizations, churches, schools and individuals host Alternative Gift Markets where shoppers learn about the geo-political and environmental causes of suffering, and have the opportunity to purchase alternative gifts to relieve that suffering while honoring family and friends.
FACT Inc. was nominated for the grant by Jackie Volbrecht, who coordinates the Marion Alternative Gift Market each fall.
“We are eligible to apply for this grant only because we participate in the Alternative Gift Market,” Gann said.
The third annual Gift Market will be 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Nov. 9.
“We have outgrown our space at the Presbyterian Church, so this year it will be held at the Marion Municipal Building,” Gann said. “Local charities as well as national charities will be participating to raise funds for a good cause.”
