Jones accredited by floral design group

With a colorful array of flowers spread across her work table, Carmon Jones, rural Hillsboro, demonstrated the talents that earned her an induction into the American Institute of Floral Designers (AIFD), as she designed a floral creation.

Jones, owner of Creations by Carmon, rural Hillsboro and former owner of Prairie Flowers, Hillsboro, was awarded the industry’s “Accredited in Floral Design” designation. She was inducted into the AIFD during ceremonies at the organization’s symposium held in July in Palm Desert, Calif.

AIFD is a non-profit education association dedicated to the advancement of professionalism and the art of floral design.

The AIFD mark was what drew Jones to research the organization three years ago.

Miller joins The Spritz as new hair stylist

Sara-Jane N. Miller has accepted a hair-styling position at The Spritz in Hillsboro.

Miller, a 2005 graduate of Hillsboro High School, graduated June 29 from Xenon Interna­tional Hair Academy in Wichita.

She attended Kansas State University for a year.

Fast sells business to Glenn Thiessen

Marlene Fast shakes hands with Glenn Thiessen as he prepares to take ownership of Fast Realty, the business she started in 2002. Thiessen, currently an agent with the company, will formally take over Aug. 1. Even after that date, Fast said she will continue to sell real estate through Fast Realty. "I am not leaving town,” she said. “I want to be free to do a better job working with buyers and sellers. I will let Glenn worry about the day-to-day decisions. I think he’ll do a real good job with it.” Fast said she has appreciated the way the Hillsboro community supported her over the past five years. “I cannot thank the town of Hillsboro enough,” she said.

In Hillsboro, it’s a 7-year-old boy in a green T-shirt—and now a new screenprinting and embroidery business, owned by Lyle and Kathy Isaac and Lynette and Brent Barkman, that decorates T-shirts and other items of nearly any color. Laura Campbell / Free Press
