KDOR exercises tax warrant against business

The Kansas Department of Revenue and Marion County Sheriff’s officers executed tax warrants Friday morning that were filed in Marion County District Court against a Hills­boro business.

The department seized the business assets of Foth’s Service Center, owned by sole proprietor Lowell Foth and located at 131 S. Main, for nonpayment of state sales and withholding taxes totaling nearly $350,000.

All on-site cash, business inventory and personal property assets, including personal vehicles belonging to the owner, were seized and the business was sealed closed. Seized assets will be sold at public auction to pay toward delinquent tax.

Women open two businesses in Marion

Two new businesses celebrated a joint effort with a grand opening with refreshments and door prizes Saturday at 162 W. Main in Marion.

The businesses are The Hair Corner, operated by Betty Stenzel, and Down on the Corner, operated by Karen Ehrlich.

Both women are lifetime residents of Marion County.

Stenzel has worked for other beauticians in Marion, and will use her skills to cut hair for both women and men at her new shop.

Ehrlich’s gift shop will feature home-made items such as figurines, crochet, hand-crafted items for babies and quilted items. She guaranteed that the gift items will each be “one of a kind” that won’t be found elsewhere.

Ehrlich will retain her job as an engineering technician for the Kansas Department...

Hanschu receives AFI award

Jayson Hanschu, an American Family Insurance agent in Hillsboro, has been recognized for customer satisfaction excellence under the J.D. Power and Associates Distinguished Insurance Agency Program.

“The Distinguished Insurance Agency award helps focus our agents on the values that are driving all of us at American Family,” said Jack Salzwedel, company president and chief operating officer.

Hanschu has been an agent for American Family since September 1998.

Brad Cady acquires Marion's Mid-America Marble Products

Brad Cady has begun operating Mid-America Marble Products, the business he purchased this month from Dave and Laura Yeats in the Marion Retail Park.

The Yeats haven’t left the park, though. They continue to operate a liquor store, convenience store and beauty shop.

Cady said he is “very happy” with the business oportunity to be back in a town where he has family members, and where he is dealing with cities he likes—Marion and Hillsboro especially.

He was an insurance agent in Kansas City, growing tired of that kind of work, when his father, Jerry Cady of Marion, called him to tell him about the business opportunity.
