Local company licensed for DreamWorks projectGolden Heritage Foods LLC, the Hillsboro-based honey packer, announced last week that it has developed a license agreement with DreamWorks Animation related to the upcoming “Bee Movie.”
The production is a comedy created by Jerry Seinfeld.
Company officials said it would release details about the agreement and its impact at a later date.

Hillsboro council OKs plat change for biz park

The Hillsboro City Council approved at its Sept 18 meeting some minor changes to the plat of a newly designated business park that could make it more accessible to highway traffic.The key change would make the north end a proposed street within the new Hillsboro Business Park extend all the way to U.S. Highway 56 instead of ending it in a cul de sac.
The change would enable the development of a direct entrance from the highway to the new park.
Mayor Delores Dalke said she only recently discovered that the Kansas Department of Transportation would allow the addition of acceleration and deceleration lanes that would make direct access to the park safe for highway traffic.

Elcon Service ownership passes among friends, coworkers

In 1963, Fred David opened Elcon Services to meet a need in Hillsboro.
Forty-four years later, David sold his shares to his long-time partner Gib Suderman in June.
Most recently, Suderman sold shares to Jonah Gehring, an employee of Elcon Services, in September.
“If I sold my interest, I wanted to sell all of it,” David said. “I didn’t want to sell a few shares of the stock. If I got out of it, I wanted to get out all the way. Gib had the first opportunity (to buy the stock).”

Members of the Hillsboro Chambert of Commerce gathered Thursday for a ceremonial ribbon-cutting marking the opening of Professional Planning Services Inc. at 105 N. Main in Hillsboro. Steven B. Smith purchased the financial-services business from longtime owner Diane Claassen.

Wichert opens new accounting business

Bryce Wichert, a certified public accountant, has opened a new accounting business in downtown Hillsboro.
Accounting and Financial Initiative LLC is open to the public at 104 E. First St., Suite C.
Through the business, Wichert plans to offer tax planning and preparation, financial services, bookkeeping and payroll services, business consulting and business management services to small businesses, non-profits and individual customers.
