Ty Goossen of Hillsboro and Megan Fink of Randolph placed well in the showmanship competition at the 41st National Junior Angus Show July 1-7 in Tulsa, Okla. The two, chosen to represent Kansas in the national showmanship contest after finishing first and second, respectively, at state, competed against 52 other state representatives and made it to the final 15 at the conclusion of four preliminary rounds. Randolph went on to place second overall. Exhibitors do not show their own animals, but are assigned one by random selection. They are judged by a three-member panel on skills such as the ability to follow instructions, use of equipment, courtesy, sportsmanship and general appearance. Goossen also exhibited two of his own heifers, placing fourth with one in the “bred and owned” class and fifth with his “owned” fall heifer.
