Ryan Jones, a Marion High School senior, was awarded this year’s $3,200 Marion County AFA Scholarship. The award is sponsored by Cooperative Grain & Supply, Midland Farm Services of Marion, Central National Bank and Agriculture Future of America, an organization based in Kansas City, Mo., that works to enhance the educational and leadership skills of youth in Kansas and seven other states. To qualify for the AFA scholarship an applicant will have a grade-point average of at least 3.0, be willing to attend AFA’s leadership conference in fall, and pursue a four-year degree in agriculture. Applicants are interviewed and must submit an essay on “Personal Vision for Agriculture.” Jones, son of Mark and Pam Jones of Marion, plans to major in milling science at Kansas State University this fall.
