The installation was performed with a skit by the “Green Team.” The Club’s motto for this year is “Living Green,” chosen because of the growing concern over global warming.

Auctioneer Larry Carr of Carr Auction & Real Estate Inc., Larned, makes one last call for a higher bid to purchase the former McDonald’s building on East D Street in Hillsboro last Thursday forenoon. Around 50 people attended the sale, but most as spectators. The bidding quickly came down to bidders, each of which reportedly was interested in using the building for a dining enterprise. The winning bid of $69,000 was made by a representative of a national restaurant chain, according to reliable sources. The identity of the buyer was not made public; the acquisition is expected to close by the end of the calendar year.

Jeanne Rziha (left) of Greenhaw Pharmacy awards Joni Calam her prize for visiting the most Hillsboro businesses managed by women, which was part of the second annual Fall Female Fling sponsored by the pharmacy Nov. 5. For visiting 17 such businesses, Calam earned $340 in Hillsboro Bucks—$20 for each place visited. The event included free food, door prizes, opportunities to win money, exhibits from local businesses and speakers addressing women’s health issues.

The secretary of agriculture has delegated the responsibility for collecting this information to the Farm Service Agency.
Foreign investors buying or selling land must report such transactions within 90 days of the date of the sale.
Failureto file an accurate or timely report can result in a penalty with finesup to 25 percent of the fair market value of the agricultural land.

Written by Hillsboro Free Press Wednesday, 21 November 2007 07:37Anita Goertzen, certified municipal clerk of Goessel, was among the more than 80 municipal clerks and finance officers from across Kansas attending the 2007 Master Municipal Clerk Academy Nov. 15-16 in Wichita.
The academy was sponsored by the Center for Urban Studies, Hugo Wall School of Urban and Public Affairs, Wichita State University and the City Clerks and Municipal Finance Officers Association of Kansas.
The academy aims to improve job performance and recognizes professionalism.
