Defending champion Hillsboro has been assigned the No. 2 seed at the Class 3A state volleyball tournament that opens Friday afternoon in Salina’s Bicentennial Center. The Trojans (37-3) have the identical record of the No. 1 seed, Garden Plain. The top seed was determined by coin flip.
Hillsboro is scheduled to open play at 3:30 p.m. Friday with a match against No. 7 seeded Wellsville (25-15). If the tournament stays on schedule, the next match will be at 5:30 p.m. against No. 6 Silver Lake (29-8) and the third match will be at 8:30 p.m. against No. 3 Cherokee-Southeast. All matches will start no sooner than the time announced.
Joining Garden Plain in the other pool are No. 4 Hoisington (31-8), No. 5 Southeast of Saline (29-8) and No. 8 Marysville (23-20).
The top two teams from each four-team pool will advance to the championship bracket on Saturday. Semifinal matches will begin at 2 p.m. with the consolation and championship matches to begin 15 minutes after the last semifinal match has concluded.
