The Hillsboro girls struggled and eventually wilted under the defensive pressure of Thomas More Prep, losing their Trojan Classic semifinals matchup by a score of 45-23 on Thursday night.
Hillsboro trailed 8-7 after one quarter, but eight turnovers in the second period helped TMP extend that lead to 20-13 by intermission. The Trojans were still within 10 points after three quarters at 31-21, but HHS managed only one basket—after coach Nathan Hiebert cleared his bench in the final 2:35—in the fourth quarter.
Unofficially, the Trojans committed 30 turnovers for the game.
With the loss, Hillsboro will play in Brown Gymnasium for third place at 3 p.m. on Saturday against the loser of the Riley County and Hesston semifinals matchup.
