HHS boys win, girls lose vs. Marion

The Hillsboro boys made 16 of 20 free-throw opportunities in the final period to pull away from Marion, 57-44, in a league contest Friday in Brown Gymna?sium.

Hillsboro led 35-30 through three quarters after a 21-21 halftime deadlock.

The Trojans had three players in double figures, led by David Loewen with 19. Clay Shewey added 18 despite an off shooting night and Daniel Jost pitched in 12 for Hillsboro, which improved to 7-5 for the year and 3-0 in the league.

Marion, led by Calvin Jeffrey with 17 points, dropped to 4-8 and 1-2.

Hillsboro?s win avenges an eight-pont loss to Marion exactly one week earlier in the Trojan Classic tournament.

To the start the evening, the Marion girls withheld a late Trojan surge to defeat HHS by a score of 56-48.The Warriors led 28-26 at halftime and 41-33 after three quarters. Hillsboro pulled to within 48-46 with 1:35 to go on a bucket by Samantha Heinrichs. But Marion launched an 8-0 run to put the game away.

Amy Neufeld led Hillsboro (5-7, 2-1) with 19 points and Dakota Kaufman added 15. Marion (6-6, 3-0) got 19 points from Kayley Heerey, 17 from Lindsay Hett and 12 from Julia Zeiner.
