DEATH: Richard E. Balzer, 85

Richard E. Balzer, 85, a farmer and stockman, died June 15 at Via Christi St. Francis Medical Center, Wichita.

The burial service is at 10 a.m. Friday, June 19, at Haven of Rest Cemetery, Hillsboro.

A celebration of life follows at 11:30 a.m. at First Mennonite Church, Halstead, with pastor Brian Harmon officiating.

Visitation is from 2-8 p.m., with family present from 6:30-8 p.m. Thursday, June 18, at Kaufman Funeral Home, 418 Chestnut St., Halstead.

He was born May 3, 1930, to Frank and Elizabeth (Richert) Balzer at Newton. On July 12, 1955, he was married to Marylin F. Smith, who survives.

Other survivors include son Randy and wife Sara Balzer of Halstead; sisters Donna Hildebrand of Firestone, Colo., and Carolee and husband Ken Neufeld of South Hutchinson and five grandchildren.

Memorials may be made to the Mennonite Disaster Services or Mennonite Central Committee and sent in care of Kaufman Funeral Home, 418 Chestnut St., Halstead, KS 67056.
