EDITORIAL: A good remembrance

Even though the motivation for doing so sounds less than inspirational, we applaud USD 410 for recognizing Even though the motivation for doing so sounds less than inspirational, we applaud USD 410 for recognizing Martin Luther King Jr. Day as an event worthy of special attention. Apparently, the decision to close school Monday was based more on finding a well-timed day off than raising the social consciousness of students about the contributions of the slain civil rights leader. We hope USD 410 continues to observe this holiday in the future, and we trust our educators will use the occasion to raise awareness about the value of ensuring civil rights for all Americans, regardless of race.
