The Hillsboro girls (12-2) started with a slow first half, then went on a 24-3 run in the second half to break the game open behind solid all-around play. Angela Herzet put in her second consecutive strong performance off the bench with 15 points and solid rebounding, while senior Sara Janzen played what coach Becky Carlson called "her best game as a varsity player." Janzen finished with 12 points, and fellow senior Angela Kroeker added 10. Offensively, the boys were a one-man gang for much of the evening, as Grant Brubacher lit up the nets for the first three quarters of the game, scoring 25 points and leading Hillsboro to a 68-51 win. But the story of the night was senior Tyson Ratzlaff, who returned to action after missing several games with a sore foot. Ratzlaff hit a key 3-pointer in the final minutes to help seal the victory. Jeremy Loewen scored 10 points for Hillsboro (10-4), and junior Nathan Fish added nine. For complete game coverage, check the next issue of the Free Press, coming Feb. 9.
