Partly Nonsense

Roy Williams and Todd Tiahart both showed up for the Hillsboro/Halstead basketball game last week in Roy Williams and Todd Tiahart both showed up for the Hillsboro/Halstead basketball game last week in Halstead. Coach Roy was signing autographs practically the whole time he was there. The congressman’s pen never left his pocket that I could see. If they both showed up at a political rally would the results be different? *** I discovered an easy and quick way to make schnetke if you want some. Just take three saltine crackers and spread butter between them with some Barkman Spred Honey on top and, wallah, pseudo schnetke! *** I was trying to figure out how to spell schnetke, so I looked in the “Off the Mountain Lake Range Cookbook.” It actually has a recipe for it. I always thought it was baked pieces of left-over pie crust with cinnamon sprinkled on it. Anyway, the book even has a Low-German schnetke song! For my Low-German friends, it goes like this: “Ve zent klene schnetke Ma haft uns gebackt Zure malk un zoda Haft se tope gereht Zat uns in de ove. Nemt uns vahda rut Kost en beske oabeit Oba schmackt ok got.” Son Dan used to howl with laughter when I said the word schnetke. He still does. Oh, in case you don’t speak Low German, here’s a translation: “We are little biscuits Mother has baked us Sour milk and soda She has mixed us together Put us in the oven Takes us out again It costs a bit of work But also tastes good.” *** I wonder if the Greeley Gas man’s wife cooks on a gas range? *** The best Christmas present I ever received was tickets to the KU/K-State basketball game which we used this past weekend in Manhattan. I hadn’t seen a Big 12 game up close and personal since 1994, when K-State last beat KU in Lawrence. It appears to me the game has become much more physical. No layup goes uncontested. It’s more like the defender is trying to take the other guy’s head off. I thought basketball was supposed to be a noncontact sport. *** Humpty Dumpty was pushed! *** To those who want more hours in the day: You’d just need more money to support them.
