Martin Tice, incumbent mayor of Marion, takes his turn responding to a question during a candidate forum Sunday afternoon at the Marion Senior Center. Listening to his response are fellow candidates Nick Nickelson and Mary Olson. About 45 people came to listen to the views and positions of the four candidates who filed for the office of mayor in preparation for a primary election Tuesday, Feb. 27, to reduce the pool to two. The forum started with the announcement that one of the four candidates was dropping out of the race. David Colburn, a reporter and photographer for the Marion County Record, told listeners he had accepted a position with Head Start in the Los Angeles area and would be moving from the community. The candidates responded to submitted questions about economic development, street repairs, budget priorities, operational funding for the indoor pool soon to be constructed and their connection with other organizations and causes in the community. The forum was sponsored by the Marion County Record.
